Canada offers several federal skilled immigration programs that are designed to attract skilled workers from around the world. These programs are:
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): This program is for skilled workers with work experience in managerial, professional, or technical occupations. To be eligible, applicants must meet minimum language requirements, have at least one year of work experience in a skilled occupation, and score enough points based on factors such as education, language proficiency, work experience, age, and adaptability.
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): This program is for skilled tradespeople who want to become permanent residents of Canada. Applicants must have at least two years of work experience in a skilled trade, meet minimum language requirements, and have a valid job offer or a certificate of qualification in their skilled trade.
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC): This program is for individuals who have already worked in Canada for at least one year in a skilled occupation. To be eligible, applicants must meet minimum language requirements and have gained work experience in Canada through authorized channels, such as through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program or a Canadian post-secondary institution.
All three of these programs are part of the Express Entry system, which is an online system that manages applications for these programs. Applicants must create an Express Entry profile and submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to be considered for these programs. Based on their profile and EOI score, candidates are invited to apply for permanent residence.
