The Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) is an immigration program designed to facilitate the entry of skilled workers, international graduates, and entrepreneurs to Newfoundland and Labrador, a province in Canada. The NLPNP works in partnership with the federal government’s immigration program to attract and retain immigrants who have the skills and experience to meet the province’s labour market needs and contribute to the growth of the economy.

The eligibility requirements:
  1. Intention to Live and Work in Newfoundland & Labrador:

The applicant must have a genuine intention to live and work in Newfoundland & Labrador. This means that the applicant must demonstrate a clear connection to the province, such as a job offer from a Newfoundland & Labrador employer or previous work or study experience in the province.

  2. Financial Resources:

The applicant must be able to demonstrate that they have enough financial resources to support themselves and any dependents for the duration of their stay in Newfoundland & Labrador.

  3. Work experience:

You must have work experience in an occupation that is in demand in Newfoundland and Labrador. The work experience must be relevant to your education and must be acquired within the past five years.

  4. Job offer:

You must have a valid job offer from a Newfoundland and Labrador employer that is related to your field of education and work experience.

  5. The applicant must demonstrate proficiency in English or French at a level accepted by the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) or NCLC.
The NLPNP has several streams through which foreign nationals can apply for permanent residency. The streams include:
  1. Express Entry Skilled Worker Stream:

This stream is designed for skilled workers who have registered in the federal Express Entry system and have been nominated by the province. Eligible candidates must meet the federal skilled worker eligibility criteria and have a job offer from an employer in Newfoundland and Labrador.

  2. Skilled Worker Category:

This category is for individuals who have a job offer from a Newfoundland and Labrador employer and possess the necessary skills, education, and work experience to contribute to the province’s labour market.

  3. International Graduate Category:

This category is for international graduates who have completed a minimum of a two-year post-secondary program in Newfoundland and Labrador and have a job offer from an employer in the province.

  4. International Entrepreneur Category:

This category is for entrepreneurs who wish to start or purchase a business in Newfoundland and Labrador. Eligible candidates must have a minimum net worth of CAD 600,000 and be willing to invest a minimum of CAD 200,000 in the province.

To apply for the NLPNP, candidates must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the program, providing details about their education, work experience, language proficiency, and other relevant factors. The province then reviews the EOI and invites selected candidates to submit a full application for provincial nomination.

Once a candidate is nominated by the province, they can then apply for permanent residency in the federal government. The NLPNP is a popular program for those seeking to immigrate to Newfoundland and Labrador, as it provides a pathway to permanent residency and ultimately, citizenship.
